- Title: Leucadendron Pisa - L. floridum hybrid, syn. L. Gypsy Silver in Australia
- Description: Named for the willowy flowering branches that tend to ‘lean’ in the wind, ‘Pisa’ is a female hybrid cultivar of L. floridum that originated in New Zealand in the 1970’s from South African seed imported by well-known nurseryman Geoff Jewell. This is a vigorous, fast-growing shrub to 2.5 m high with an erect growth habit. Its slightly twisted, silvery-green linear foliage is an identifying character. The well-displayed limey-yellow bracts surround the silver cones and several are carried a stem of a metre in length during late spring to early summer. They are excellent cut flowers, lasting well in the vase and travelling well for exporters. ‘Pisa’ is both frost-hardy and wind tolerant (including salt-laden winds) and requires well-drained, sunny positions. It must be well pruned in late spring to encourage new growth and a bushy habit.
