- Title: Protea Thomas
- Description: This Australian introduction by a South African nurseryman in the 1990’s is an excellent example of the benefits of using P. compacta in hybridizing work. The cross provides neat, medium-sized flower heads of clear colour and long stems combined with typical hybrid vigour. ‘Thomas’ forms a neat bushy shrub to 2 m and produces its prominently displayed rich pink heads during winter and spring. It is both a striking garden plant and an excellent cut flower subject. Once established it is usually frost hardy to -4 ºC.
