  • Description:  Closely related to Banksia serrata, this eastern Australian species is sometimes used for sand dune stabilisation as it naturally occurs in sandy, coastal areas. It forms a strong, small tree or dense shrub up to 8m in height. The pale green flowers are produced over autumn and winter. Popular with nectar seeking birds. Easily grown in a range of soil types and can withstand quite hard frosts once established. Image depicts opening seed cone - mid to late summer. Photo taken at Gold Coast Botanic Gardens.This species is the floral and arboreal emblem for the City of the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. It was also one of the first banksia species to be cultivated successfully in England in 1788.
