  • Title:  Agapanthus praecox orientalis, Lily of the Nile
  • Description:  In spite of the common name, this easily grown and hardy evergreen perennial is a native of Southern Africa. Generally a dense, clumping plant to 1m x 1m with 1.5m long flowering stems, there are also many dwarf variants. The white form depicted is 'albus'. Blue shades are more common. There are many hybrids and named varieties. Frequently used in borders, it may also be seen on roadsides and is surprisingly unpalatable to wandering stock.
