Banksia nutans, Nodding banksia

Email

  • Title:  Banksia nutans, Nodding banksia
  • Description:  One of the few ‘nodding’ banksias, this species with its small inverted 6cm long flower heads of pinkish-purple and blue-green and heath-like foliage is distinctive. The flowers are produced from spring through summer into autumn and may have a slight onion scent. Rarely exceeding 1 m in height, it has a neat, bushy habit, requires well-drained soils, a dry climate and will tolerate light frosts. Warm, humid climates will invariably prove fatal. B. nutans is only occasionally available from specialist nurseries, but is worthy of a place in the connoisseur’s garden.
