  • Title:  Banksia sphaerocarpa, Round-fruited banksia, fox banksia
  • Description:  A slow growing, smaller shrub to 2 m or less, the Fox banksia bears distinctive round-shaped flowers that are wider than long at 6cm high x 9cm wide. A purplish or reddish-brown colour, they are borne over late summer into winter. As it has a lignotuber, this species can be hard pruned to keep it to a compact habit and has been been successfully grown in tubs. The variety B. sphaerocarpa var. latifolia is particularly worthwhile, having a more dense, compact habit and is more floriferous with well-displayed terminal flowers. Hardy in a wide range of soil types, both prefer acidic soils and drier climates.
