  • Title:  Banksia petiolaris
  • Description:  A prostrate growing, ground cover species up to 2 m wide with leaves at 16 cm long being the highest part of the plant. Lightly serrated leaves are a bright green and with silvery-grey undersides are a feature of the plant when it is not flowering. Terminal, 20 cm long cylindrical flower spikes are dark cream in colour with the centre a winey-red shade. When fully open the colour is an overall light creamy-yellow. They are held erectly from ground level, over spring and early summer and make a striking display. Easily grown in light or sandy soils which are either acid or neutral. Full sun is generally preferred, but light shade is acceptable. Excessive watering and humid conditions are likely to be fatal. It is usually frost hardy to -4 ºC.
