Hakea bucculenta, Red Pokers

Email

  • Title:  Hakea bucculenta, Red Pokers
  • Description:  This is one of the more spectacular hakeas. Forming a bushy shrub of 3 m or more high by an equal width, it has both neat, narrow foliage and spectacular flower spikes to 15 cm long. These are produced in crowded groups over late winter and spring and although carried on the old wood are still clearly visible and sought after by nectar seeking birds. Well drained, lighter soils and sunny positions are key essentials. Light frosts are tolerated.
